Ask the Readers: Hawaii?

Ok, maybe I’m kidding myself by asuming I have readers this early into the blog, but I really want to create a community of people who are creating their own little black guidebooks to life and travel.

We are planning a 7 day trip to Honolulu over labor day. Hawaii sounds like a more common destination, but I’ve never been there so I thought I would ask: Have you been to Hawaii? What did you like/do/see/eat? What was your experience?

I have wanted to go to Hawaii for 20 years! Unfortunately, I’ve never been so I have no tips, but I can’t wait to hear about your trip.

I’ve been to Hawaii many times over the years–most recently, a couple of weeks ago. On that trip I stayed on Kauai, I loved the catamaran and snorkel trip that I took to the Na Pali coast and Nihau, and I had a great experience overall. Kauai is great for those who want a relatively quiet Hawaii experience.

Most of Maui reminds me too much of Southern California. I grew up in the Laguna Beach area, I don’t need to fly half way across the pacific ocean to do more of the same.

The Big Island is great for the national park. I loved visiting the volcano.

Most of my memories regard Honolulu involve visiting as a high school student when I was performing in the Aloha and Oahu Bowl half times. The most significant part of that trip, though, was a trip to Pearl Harbor. It was a memorable, moving experience for me.

I prefer Kauai, but each island has its own charm. I’m looking forward to reading about your trip :)
